OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

Pipe Sizing Settings dialog

Used to define design data and set supply flow and size criteria for a pipe system in pipe system sizing computing.

Opens when the Settings button on the Pipe System Sizing dialog is accessed.
SettingDescription
Design Data The unit system and the system data in the form of physical and environmental parameters and their limits are set here.
  • Unit System - Displays the native unit system applied to design data parameters.
The unit system gets set to one of the below options:
    • Imperial
    • Metric
The design file unit is selected by default.
Note: The currently set units are displayed in bracket against the pipe design data and for size and dimension fields. One of the [Imperial, metric] units.
  • Flow Demand Data — The Supply control type is set here.
    • Supply Control Type — Select one of the option of flushing supply used in the system:
      • Flush Valve - for commercial, service pipe system.
      • Flush Tank - best for residential site.
  • Pipe Design Data — Various physical parameters of a pipe system are defined here.
    • Limit Pipe Velocity [ft/s, m/s] — The pipe velocity limit is set here. Enter a new value to override the default value, as required. When the velocity is reduced there is lower head loss due to friction in the pipe.
    • Primary Standard — Sets one of the country standards used for pipe sizing:
      • ASHRAE - the US standards,
      • CIBSE - the UK standards, and
      • AIRAH - the Australian standards.
    • Supply Main Pressure [psi, kPa ] — Sets the main supply pressure value. You can override the default value to suit the one best for your site. A pressure difference must exist in the system to cause the liquid to move.
    • Material Type — The material type for pipe is set here. Select the material type that is best suitable for your project.
    • Roughness [ft, mm]- Displays the roughness value for the selected pipe material.

This is the internal roughness of the inner surface of the pipe. It affects the turbulence occurring along the internal pipe wall coefficient is based on the material of the pipe.

    • Meter Pressure Drop [psi, kPa] — Sets atmospheric pressure value for meter. You can override the default value to suit the one best for your site.
    • End Connection — Sets the terminal connection terminating the piping sections, from the list of available connection types, usually for Steel material.
    • Water Temperature [°F, °C] — Sets the value of fluid temperature for proposed flown though pipe. Overwrite the default value to actual in design.
Note: Units displayed are applicable as per current unit system.
Reporting Options Sets the report style and adds a logo image in report heading.

  • Reporting Style — The selected reporting style inherits the report presentation according to the format defined in the style.
    The available style options are:
    • Apex
    • Aspect
    • Civic
    • Corporate
    • Office
    • Normal
    • Solstice
These style sheets inherit internal style attributes and shades defined for title, caption, table data and page info.
  • Logo — Defines the image as logo to appear on every report head.
    • Browse — Opens the folder to select an image file that is to be assigned as logo. This image may serve as company logo or brand printed in the headers on each sheet of report.
dialog controls
  • OK — Saves the current settings and closes the dialog.
  • Cancel — Closes the dialog without changing any settings.
